BP announces FID for 100-MW green hydrogen project in Lingen

BP Plc (LON:BP) has made the final investment decision (FID) for the 100-MW Lingen Green Hydrogen (LGH2) project that is being developed next to the company’s refinery in the namesake town in Lower Saxony, Germany.The British oil and gas major said that LGH2 will be its largest industrial green hydrogen plant and the first one that it owns and operates entirely. The company intends to supply the hydrogen produced at the site to its refineries and industrial customers in the region.Now that FID has been taken, the construction of the plant is scheduled to begin next year so that commissioning can take place in 2027.Supported by funding from the IPCEI (Important Projects of Common European Interest) programme, LGH2 is expected to produce up to 11,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually using offshore wind power for the electrolysis process.BP noted that this move is part of the five to ten investment it intends to make in similar hydrogen projects this decade.

The British oil and gas major said that LGH2 will be its largest industrial green hydrogen plant and the first one that it owns and operates entirely. The company intends to supply the hydrogen produced at the site to its refineries and industrial customers in the region.
