Equinor boosts stake in clean energy major Ørsted

Norwegian energy major Equinor ASA (OSE:EQNR) has lifted its shareholding in Ørsted A/S (CPH:ORSTED) to 10%, two months after its initial investment in the Danish clean energy group.Equinor now owns 42.04 million shares of Ørsted’s stock, equal to 10% of the voting rights and share capital in the Danish company, the latter said on Monday. Financial details about the move were not available in the statement.The latest transaction follows a deal from early October when Equinor acquired a 9.8% stake in Ørsted, aiming to bolster its position in the renewable energy sector. “This is a counter-cyclical investment in a leading developer, and a premium portfolio of operating offshore wind assets,” Equinor’s CEO Anders Opedal said at the time.According to its third-quarter financial report, Ørsted had 17.7 GW of installed renewable energy capacity, including 9.9 GW of offshore wind and 5.7 GW of onshore wind farms. The company’s goal is to reach gross installed renewable capacity of between 35 GW and 38 GW by 2030, targeting 20 GW-22 GW from offshore wind technologies.
