Exomad Green breaks ground on world’s largest biochar facility

Exomad Green breaks ground on world’s largest biochar facility

According to a statement, this milestone represents a major leap forward in the global effort to scale durable carbon dioxide removal (CDR), and it demonstrates Exomad Green’s ongoing commitment to environmental restoration and local development.

The Guarayos facility is being developed in two phases. Phase 1, scheduled to be fully operational by mid-2026, will include eight biochar reactors capable of removing 160,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide (CO2) and producing 64,000 tonnes of biochar annually.

Expected to begin in 2026, Phase 2 will double capacity to a total of 16 reactors, to reach a projected 320,000 tonnes of CO2 removed and 128,000 tonnes of biochar produced annually.

However, the project’s ambition goes well beyond carbon.

We’re excited to begin what will be the world’s largest biochar facility, a major step in scaling the carbon removal industry. But this project goes beyond CO₂ removal—it’s about restoring land, preventing agricultural expansion, and empowering local communities through development and opportunity, said Diego Justiniano, CEO of Exomad Green.

Through its biochar donation program, Exomad Green will distribute biochar to Indigenous communities and farmers to restore degraded soils, enhance food production, and improve resilience to climate stress.

Additionally, the facility is designed to generate long-term economic impact by creating green jobs, improving infrastructure, and contributing to the urban transformation of the Guarayos region.

This initiative reinforces Exomad Green’s leadership in Latin America’s carbon dioxide removal (CDR) sector and reflects the company’s broader mission to deliver high-integrity carbon removal solutions that are deeply rooted in community, ecology, and long-term regeneration.
