Moeve receives 303 million from the Government to launch the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley
Huelva, Apr 4 (EFECOM) – The Ministry for Ecological Transition (Miteco) confirmed this Friday the final award of 303 million euros to Moeve for the initial phase of its Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley, the largest project in Spain for the production of this energy vector.
This project, which will be implemented in its initial phase in Huelva, has secured a quarter of the total awarded, receiving the largest amount of funding in the Perte (Perte Program), and is the only project in Andalusia, the Ministry reported in a statement.
The Onuba project, as the first stage of Moeve’s green hydrogen project is called, contemplates the construction of a green hydrogen generation plant in Palos de la Frontera (Huelva) with 400 MW of electrolysis power. This will allow the creation of 10,000 direct, indirect and induced jobs, most of them during the construction phase, with the development of a new business and industrial ecosystem.
The new infrastructure will supply green hydrogen to both the company’s own industrial facilities and third parties, significantly contributing to the decarbonization of industry and heavy-duty land, sea, and air transport.
For Maarten Wetselaar, CEO of Moeve said:
This award is a great boost to the Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley and our strategy to become a benchmark for the energy transition in Europe.
The Andalusian Green Hydrogen Valley is the sector’s most ambitious initiative in Spain and one of the most significant in Europe.
This joint project, with an investment of over €3 billion, will include two green hydrogen production centers at the Moeve energy parks in La Rábida (Palos de la Frontera, Huelva) and San Roque (Campo de Gibraltar, Cádiz). These plants will have a combined electrolysis capacity of 2 GW and will produce up to 300,000 tons of green hydrogen per year.
In total, the H2 Valles program has allocated €1.214 billion to seven strategic initiatives in Andalusia, Aragon, Castile and León, Catalonia, and Galicia, with the goal of achieving a total electrolysis capacity of 2,278 MW and mobilizing investments worth €4.907 billion.
This initiative is part of the Strategic Project for the Recovery and Economic Transformation of Renewable Energy, Renewable Hydrogen, and Storage (Perte ERHA) of the Ministry for Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge. EFECOM
