MorGen Mobility begins construction of the first green hydrogen refuelling station in the Bamberg region, Germany

The project has been granted funding by the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, supporting the development of hydrogen refuelling infrastructure

Hallstadt, 16 January, 2025 –MorGen Mobility, a developer and operator of green hydrogen refuelling stations, has started the construction of its second facility located at the Cleantech Innovation Park in Hallstad, Germany. The groundbreaking ceremony was attended by local dignitaries and marks a significant advancement in the region’s sustainable transport infrastructure.

This project is supported by the Bavarian State Ministry for Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy through the funding programme for the development of hydrogen refuelling infrastructure. The Cleantech Innovation Park was selected for its strategic location near the A70 and A73 motorways, enabling efficient logistics for nearby companies transitioning to green energy solutions and providing accessibility for businesses focused on clean technology.

Bavaria’s Minister of Economic Affairs and Energy, Hubert Aiwanger, expressed his enthusiasm for the start of construction:

Hydrogen offers significant advantages for freight and passenger transportation, particularly over long distances.

“To fully harness this potential, we are committed to advancing the expansion of hydrogen infrastructure across Bavaria. I am delighted that a hydrogen filling station is now being constructed in the Bamberg region.”

Peter Keller, Managing Director of the Cleantech Innovation Park, said:

The hydrogen fuelling station at the Cleantech Innovation Park is another forward-looking project for the region.

“The park represents innovative technologies that positively impact the energy transition. This project demonstrates the importance of collaboration between businesses, public authorities and academia in developing sustainable solutions for the mobility sector.”

Werner Leitner, Head of Supply Chain and Operations at MorGen Mobility, said:

With today’s ground breaking ceremony we are setting another crucial milestone in the development of sustainable mobility infrastructure in Germany.

“This station – the second in our network – will enable access to green hydrogen for the mobility of tomorrow.”

Johann Kalb, District Administrator for Bamberg commented:

We must fully utilise the potential of green hydrogen to successfully navigate the energy transition in transportation.

“Projects like this confirm that we are on the right path, and we are proud to support this initiative that brings such an enormous competitive advantage to the region.”

The Mayor of Hallstadt, Thomas Söder, emphasised:

Hallstadt is making a bold statement for the future use of hydrogen.

“We are proud to be part of this project, which positions the region as a key player in the growing green hydrogen sector. We look forward to the opening in a few months.”

The new hydrogen refuelling station will supply renewable hydrogen at 350 and 700 bar pressure levels, serving light and heavy-duty vehicles, buses and passenger cars. The hydrogen will primarily be sourced from regional production facilities, strengthening local value chains and reducing emissions in heavy transportation. The new location is expected to open in the spring of 2025.

MorGen Mobility plans to operate green hydrogen refuelling stations designed to serve public, local, and distribution transport in German metropolitan areas, as well as to serve long-distance transport along major routes. The planned network will also include efficient fleet refuelling stations strategically located in industrial parks and commercial areas. Three additional locations are expected to become operational by the end of 2025.
