Sembcorp may develop green hydrogen plant in Odisha
Singapore’s Sembcorp Industries Ltd (SGX:U96) will explore the development of a green hydrogen plant in the eastern Indian state of Odisha under a non-binding memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the state government.Sembcorp on Friday announced the signing of two MoUs with the Odisha government during the visit of Singapore's president Tharman Shanmugaratnam to India. One is between Sembcorp’s wholly-owned subsidiary Sembcorp Green Hydrogen India Pvt Ltd (SGHIPL) and Industrial Promotion and Investment Corp of Odisha Ltd. Under it, SGHIPL will study the development of a production facility for green hydrogen and its derivatives with an expected production capacity of 720,000 tonnes per year.Under the second MoU, Sembcorp Development Ltd will assess the potential for the development of an industrial park in Odisha.Sembcorp said it continues to seek opportunities to deepen its presence in India, noting that Odisha, with its abundant resources and investor-friendly policies, is pivotal to India’s low-carbon transition.
