CPM to showcase revolutionary Direct Drive pellet mill at LIGNA 2025
US-headed CPM Holdings, Inc. (CPM), a leading solutions provider of process equipment, engineered technologies, and aftermarket parts and services, is set to unveil the PM1200DD, a first-of-its-kind direct-drive high-capacity pellet mill for the alternative fuel industry, at the upcoming LIGNA 2025 in Hanover, Germany.

Designed for demanding applications, this innovative direct drive pellet mill is built to handle the toughest pelleting requirements, offering unmatched energy efficiency, performance, and reliability.
The new CPM PM1200DD pellet mill is engineered to process a wide range of biomass feedstocks, including agricultural residues and woody biomass.
Unlike conventional systems, the Direct Drive technology eliminates the need for a gearbox or V-belt, making it the most advanced and energy-efficient pellet mill ever brought to the market.
At LIGNA 2025, we will reveal our newest pellet mill technology, the PM1200DD. This machine truly represents the next evolution in pelleting technology. With energy savings, enhanced performance, and simplified maintenance, this innovative machine is set to transform the industry, said Alvaro Timotheo, President of CPM Industrial Solutions.
CPM retained FutureMetrics, the leading consultancy firm in the wood pellet sector, to analyze CPM’s Direct Drive pellet mill onsite at a customer facility in October 2024.
We highly recommend the Direct Drive pellet mill to our clients. The Direct Drive would be a game-changer for those wood pellet producers who are struggling to maintain consistent uptime with problematic high-OPEX cost pellet mills, said John Swaan, Senior Operations Expert, FutureMetrics.
According to CPM, key features and benefits of the PM1200DD include:
- Energy Savings: The Direct Drive system offers up to 20 percent energy savings compared to traditional drive systems, thanks to its powerful torque motor that ensures high efficiency.
- Higher Torque and Superior Performance: With a higher torque compared to conventional systems, the Direct Drive produces denser pellets, meeting the toughest quality standards in the biomass industry.
- Pellet Quality: With a variable die speed that ranges from 0 to 6.5 m/s without any loss of torque, this pellet mill covers almost all pelleting applications and provides excellent pellet quality with a high Pellet Durability Index (PDI).
- Reduced Maintenance and Costs: Fewer mechanical components reduce maintenance time and costs, while the innovative design also ensures a longer lifespan of the machine parts.
- Compact Design: The modular system features a compact design with the smallest footprint in its class, making it ideal for operations with limited space.
- Easy Monitoring: The pellet mill includes simple monitoring options for product quality, including sampling at the press door, making quality assurance quick and efficient.
Held biennially in Hanover, Germany since 1975, LIGNA 2025, which will be held on May 26-30, celebrates its 50th anniversary as the world-leading trade fair for the wood processing industry.
