Lhyfe starts construction of fifth hydrogen plant in France
Lhyfe, one of the world’s green hydrogen pioneers is continuing to expand with its first site in northern France. The new production site under construction by the company is in Croixrault, in the Somme region of Hauts-de-France.

Thanks to its strategic location and Lhyfe’s logistical capabilities, this site will provide the many manufacturers in Hauts-de-France and mobility players in the region with green and renewable hydrogen to decarbonize operations.
The project is part of a wider ambition initiative of the Communauté de Communes Somme Sud-Ouest, a local authority with 119 member communities, that aims to boost local employment and provide a favorable economic environment for companies wishing to set up in a dynamic environment.
Green hydrogen from 2026
France-headed Lhyfe is one of the pioneers of Europe’s green and renewable hydrogen sector.
Founded in 2019, the company inaugurated its first site in 2021, and today already has four installed sites and several other sites under construction across Europe.
Lhyfe produces its hydrogen locally through the electrolysis of water using renewable electricity.
From 2026, about thirty kilometres south-west of Amiens, at the Mine d’Or business park, beside the A29 motorway, in Croixrault, Lhyfe will have the capacity to produce and deliver up to two tonnes of green hydrogen every day, thanks to an electrolysis capacity of 5 MW.
Two tonnes of green hydrogen is equivalent to the amount a hydrogen truck needs to travel around 25,000 km, without emitting a single gram of carbon dioxide (CO2).
Lhyfe’s green and renewable hydrogen production project is perfectly aligned with the ambitions of the Communauté de Communes Somme Sud-Ouest (CC2SO), and in particular, our will to create synergies and foster innovation using resources available in the Somme region. Thanks to this site, we’ll be helping to build a regional ecosystem around locally-produced green and renewable hydrogen, remarked Alain Desfosses, President of the Communauté de Communes Somme Sud-Ouest.
Green energy carrier
As an energy carrier, green hydrogen is as powerful as it is clean and can replace the fossil fuels currently used in heavy mobility and industry.
The green hydrogen produced locally by Lhyfe will contribute to the region’s energy sovereignty and its sustainable re-industrialization.
With energy and the energy transition at the heart of the concerns of economic and industrial players, the creation of the Croixrault site will contribute to the region’s industrial dynamics and attractiveness.
This site will complete Lhyfe’s coverage of France – it already covers the West (Pays de la Loire and Brittany), South-West (Occitanie), and East with a site under construction in Auvergne Rhône-Alpes part of the country.
Decarbonizing transport, logistics, and manufacturing in Hauts-de-France
The Croixrault site will be able to distribute its green and renewable hydrogen throughout the Hauts-de-France region.
The region’s manufacturers and mobility players wishing to decarbonize their businesses can now rely on this clean alternative to begin or continue their energy transition:
- The region is widely recognized for its industrial activities, including chemicals, metallurgy, steel, and glass. Green hydrogen will have a role to play in transforming the industrial landscape over the coming years, be it as a replacement for grey hydrogen (which emits CO2), or through new production processes or the creation of new industries.
- As the Hauts-de-France region is a major logistics crossroads, Lhyfe’s hydrogen will also be able to supply the fuel stations used by the heavy goods vehicles crossing and delivering to the region, as well as the logistics platforms – whose intensive use makes them a priority for hydrogen use – and all of the hydrogen mobility used by the region such as buses, refuse collection vehicles.
Power grid stabilization
Finally, thanks to the controllable nature of Lhyfe’s sites, the Croixrault unit will be one of the sites that can help stabilize the power grid in the Hauts-de-France region.
At the request of the power grid operator, Lhyfe will be able to modulate its electricity use upwards or downwards, enabling it to stabilize the grid in the event of peaks in power usage.
We’re delighted to announce this new production site in Croixrault. Green hydrogen is beginning to emerge all over Europe, to decarbonize activities that could not be decarbonized until now, both in the heavy or intensive mobility sector and in industry, both of which are particularly present in the Hauts-de-France region. As decarbonization is synonymous with competitiveness, we can’t wait to use the hydrogen produced in Croixrault to contribute to the region’s energy transition, deindustrialization, and energy sovereignty, commented Maud Augeai, Sales Director France at Lhyfe.
