Liquid Wind plans eFuel facility at Finnish power plant

Liquid Wind has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Turun Seudun Energiantuotanto Oy (TSE) for the development of an eFuel facility in Naantali, Finland that will be located next to TSE’s Naantali 4 power plant, the companies said today.Under the plan, TSE’s power plant will provide biogenic carbon dioxide (CO2) and steam for the production of eMethanol, while the process and waste heat of the eFuel facility will be used for district heat.The eFuel plant is intended to produce 100,000 tonnes of eMethanol per year from green hydrogen and biogenic CO2, with a final investment decision (FID) targeted for 2026, and start-up for 2029.Liquid Wind is the main project developer and has initiated the environmental impact assessment and permitting process. The parties will also together look at the opportunities for ensuring renewable power supply for the eMethanol production.“This large investment project is an important step in the green transition of the former Neste harbor area which the city is committed to,” said Laura Leppanen, Mayor of the City of Naantali.TSE is owned by Turku Energia, Fortum Power and Heat, and Naantali with stakes of 43.5%, 53.5% and 3%, respectively.
