SEFE, Hoeegh Evi to develop clean hydrogen supply chains

Berlin-based energy firm Securing Energy for Europe GmbH (SEFE) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Norwegian infrastructure provider Hoeegh Evi to jointly develop international supply chains for the delivery of clean hydrogen to Germany and other European countries. The companies will assess the technical and commercial feasibility of various corridors for the supply of hydrogen based on ammonia, SEFE said on Monday. The supply chains cover the sourcing of ammonia, transportation by ship, and delivery to floating import terminals. The ammonia will be then cracked into hydrogen and supplied to SEFE’s customers through the German hydrogen core grid.Under the planned collaboration, the partners will aim to identify locations for floating ammonia-to-hydrogen terminals along Germany's Baltic Sea and North Sea coasts, as well as other potential locations in Europe.SEFE will manage both the upstream supply portfolio and the downstream part of the supply chain. More specifically, the company will oversee the sourcing of clean molecules and the demand aggregation in Germany and Europe. It will also invest in the German hydrogen core grid through its subsidiary Gascade.Hoeegh Evi will provide the midstream infrastructure that will link Germany with international hydrogen markets. The firm will be responsible for the transportation of ammonia by ship and the floating import terminal infrastructure. The latest news comes after SEFE entered in November into a collaboration with Brazilian power distributor Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (BVMF:ELET6), better known as Eletrobras, and Kuwaiti project developer EnerTech to supply Germany and Europe with 200,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, starting by 2030.SEFE is the former subsidiary of Russia's energy giant Gazprom in Germany which was nationalised by the federal government after the start of the war in Ukraine.

The ammonia will be then cracked into hydrogen and supplied to SEFE’s customers through the German hydrogen core grid.

Under the planned collaboration, the partners will aim to identify locations for floating ammonia-to-hydrogen terminals along Germany's Baltic Sea and North Sea coasts, as well as other potential locations in Europe.

SEFE will manage both the upstream supply portfolio and the downstream part of the supply chain. More specifically, the company will oversee the sourcing of clean molecules and the demand aggregation in Germany and Europe. It will also invest in the German hydrogen core grid through its subsidiary Gascade.

Hoeegh Evi will provide the midstream infrastructure that will link Germany with international hydrogen markets. The firm will be responsible for the transportation of ammonia by ship and the floating import terminal infrastructure.

The latest news comes after SEFE entered in November into a collaboration with Brazilian power distributor Centrais Eletricas Brasileiras SA (BVMF:ELET6), better known as Eletrobras, and Kuwaiti project developer EnerTech to supply Germany and Europe with 200,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually, starting by 2030.

SEFE is the former subsidiary of Russia's energy giant Gazprom in Germany which was nationalised by the federal government after the start of the war in Ukraine.
