OQGN and Fluxys Forge Strategic Hydrogen Infrastructure Pact in Oman

Oman’s OQ Gas Networks (OQGN) is teaming up with Belgium’s Fluxys in what looks like a game-changing partnership to build out a nationwide hydrogen infrastructure. The rollout is set to kick off in 2025, lining up perfectly with Oman’s Vision 2040 — an ambitious plan that aims to crank out up to 1.5 million tonnes of green hydrogen every year by 2030. Thanks to Oman’s powerhouse solar and wind resources and rising demand in the EU for clean energy, the timing couldn’t be better.

Blending homegrown know-how and European hydrogen expertise

The backbone of this plan? Smart, scalable tech like hydrogen-optimized pipelines and cutting-edge, AI-based leak detection systems. Fluxys brings a wealth of European experience with hydrogen corridors that cross borders, while OQGN taps into its deep roots in Oman’s natural gas infrastructure. Together, they form a solid match, each bringing something critical to the table.

Oman’s also putting real muscle behind this initiative by setting aside 1,500 km² for designated hydrogen zones. Of course, bumps in the road remain — like scaling up electrolysis capacity fast enough and locking in reliable offtake agreements — but the momentum is clearly building.
