The Canadian Hydrogen Association Welcomes Sturgeon County as Newest Member
The Canadian Hydrogen Association (CHA) and its regional affiliate, Hydrogen Alberta (H2AB)are pleased to welcome Sturgeon County as its newest member. Sturgeon County is a vibrant community of over 20,000 residents, offering the best of both urban and rural lifestyles. Located just north of Edmonton and west of the North Saskatchewan River, our 2,084 square kilometres are home to thriving agricultural operations, advanced manufacturing, and robust transportation networks. We are proud to be part of Alberta’s Industrial Heartland, a key energy hub driving innovation and economic growth.
Sturgeon County benefits from close proximity to major centres like Edmonton and St. Albert, as well as neighbouring towns such as Morinville and Redwater. The County is also strategically located near Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Edmonton, reinforcing our connection to national defense and supporting our growing interest in the aviation, aerospace, and defense sectors. With a focus on innovation and strategic development, Sturgeon County is positioning itself as a forward-looking region, ready to support high-tech industries and new opportunities in air and space.
Why did you join the CHA?
Sturgeon County joined the Canadian Hydrogen Association (CHA) to connect with nearly 200 organizations across Canada that share a vision for advancing hydrogen as a clean energy solution. Through the CHA, we aim to collaborate with other levels of government, advocate for regulatory improvements, and secure funding to support hydrogen initiatives that align with our commitment to sustainable development.
What would you like to share with other members of the CHA community (e.g. opportunities for collaboration, project/activity announcements, etc)?

Sturgeon County is proud to be at the forefront of energy evolution.
“As the past Chair of the Edmonton Region Hydrogen Hub, I’ve seen firsthand how collaboration can drive progress. Our Industrial Heartland positions us as leaders in developing a low-carbon hydrogen economy. Since 2021, we’ve been working through the Hydrogen Hub partnership—bringing together government, Indigenous groups, academia, and industry—to establish the Edmonton region as a global leader in clean energy. Sturgeon County is ready to embrace the opportunities that come with building a sustainable future.”
