Yamna secures terrain for green ammonia site at Brazil’s Port of Acu

UK-based YamnaCo Ltd has signed a land reservation agreement with Port of Acu Operacoes, securing a terrain at the Brazilian port’s new low-carbon hydrogen and derivatives hub to build a green ammonia plant with a targeted output of up to 1 million tonnes per year.Port of Acu is reserving 2 million square meters (21.5million sq ft) for green hydrogen projects. The new area adds to the 1 million square metres already licensed at the port, a press statement says.The project marks Yamna’s first initiative in Brazil. It is expected to reach a final investment decision (FID) by 2027 and start production in 2030.Port of Acu is an industrial port and energy hub located in the northeast of Rio de Janeiro State. It is owned by Prumo Logística and Port of Antwerp-Bruges International.Founded in 2022, Yamna is a green hydrogen and derivatives development and investment company financially backed by UK-based private equity fund HYCAP. It is part of a consortium with EDF Renewables and Japan's J-POWER that is planning a large-scale green ammonia project in Oman which is expected to have the capacity to produce 1 million tonnes of green ammonia annually.
