ZeroAvia to Build Hydrogen Fuel Cell Manufacturing Hub in Scotland by 2028

ZeroAvia, the U.S.-based leader in hydrogen-electric aviation, has announced plans to open a brand new Hydrogen Centre of Excellence in Renfrewshire, Scotland, just a stone’s throw from Glasgow Airport. Unveiled on May 21, 2025, the new facility is slated to be up and running by 2028, and will focus on building cutting-edge high-temperature PEM fuel cells and powerful 2MW hydrogen-electric powertrains—key components for tomorrow’s zero-emission regional aircraft.

A boost for Scotland’s green hydrogen future

This isn’t just a big win for ZeroAvia—it’s a major step forward for Scotland, too. With a hefty £9 million grant from Scottish Enterprise, the project is expected to create around 350 skilled jobs, helping to drive the country’s push toward a 5GW green hydrogen economy by 2030. It’s part of a broader effort to put zero-emission technology at the heart of industrial decarbonization efforts.

Once it’s up and running, the Renfrewshire site will round out a trio of global operations for ZeroAvia, forming a solid backbone for the company’s tech rollout. The team is gearing up to retrofit 19-seat aircraft as early as 2025, with plans to tackle larger 80-seater models by 2027.
