Amazon MGM’s Masters of the Universe set powers up with green hydrogen

The film industry is kicking off a green revolution! Over at the set of Masters of the Universe, Amazon MGM Studios has made a bold move by swapping out traditional diesel generators for innovative transportable GeoPura Hydrogen Power Units. This is just the latest buzz in clean hydrogen news and a big step forward for hydrogen infrastructure. They’re showing everyone that major studios can cut back on emissions while still keeping things running smoothly.

This spring, the sustainability team at Amazon MGM Studios teamed up with Neptune Sustainability and GeoPura for a pilot program just outside London. They set up three Hydrogen Power Units (HPUs) at the main basecamp, each packing a 100 kW fuel cell and 250 kWh battery capacity. The beauty of these units is that they generate substantial electricity while only producing water and some low-grade heat—now that’s clean energy! The HPUs powered everything from catering setups to makeup trailers, and even the charging stations for a fleet of electric Mercedes vehicles that ferried the cast and crew. This whole setup created a zero-exhaust emission loop, which is perfect for Amazon's bigger goal of hitting net-zero carbon by 2040.
