Evia Aero orders 15 Britten-Norman planes to be switched to hydrogen

German sustainable aviation start-up Evia Aero has signed a letter of intent with Britten-Norman to buy 15 new Britten-Norman Islander aircraft, the UK aircraft manufacturer said on Wednesday.Deliveries of the 15 planes will start at the beginning of 2027. The machines will then be converted to zero-emissions platforms powered by hydrogen fuel-cell propulsion systems.The aircraft will come with redesigned interiors for increased passenger comfort and compatibility with sustainable aviation technologies.The partners say they aim to provide practical, zero-emissions aircraft for regional travel, fuelled by green energy produced on-site at regional airports.“We are fully committed to the Britten-Norman Islander. The aircraft fulfils all the skills we need as an operator for short-haul flights,” stated Evia Aero CEO Florian Kruse.
