INERATEC Launches ERA ONE: Europe’s Landmark Green Hydrogen E-Fuels Plant Opens in Frankfurt

INERATEC GmbH kicked off a major milestone on June 3, 2025 with the opening of ERA ONE — now officially Europe’s biggest Power-to-Liquid (PtL) e-fuel plant, right in the heart of Frankfurt-Höchst, Germany. Company reports indicate, that this game-changing facility is set to produce up to 2,500 tonnes of carbon-neutral synthetic fuels every year, using green hydrogen from a chlor-alkali process and biogenic CO₂.

But this isn’t just about cranking out cleaner fuels. ERA ONE is aiming squarely at some of the toughest sectors to electrify—think aviation and shipping. As those industries look for ways to clean up their carbon footprint, this facility is stepping up to lead the charge, helping the EU hit its climate targets and stay ahead of ReFuelEU Aviation regulatory timelines.

A €70M Boost for a Cleaner Future

Reportedly backed by a solid €70 million from the European Investment Bank and Breakthrough Energy Catalyst, there’s more to this project than just funding — it’s about location and timing too. Situated close to Frankfurt Airport, one of Europe’s busiest transport hubs, ERA ONE is not only pumping out cleaner fuel, but also proving that large-scale Power-to-Liquid tech can be seamlessly integrated into today’s industrial infrastructure.

That makes it more than just a local win — it’s a model for how industrial decarbonization can look at scale, and a signal that Germany’s clean energy push is gaining real ground.

Turning CO₂ and Hydrogen into Future Fuel

At the heart of it all is Fischer-Tropsch synthesis, the process that turns captured CO₂ and renewable hydrogen into synthetic crude. From there, it’s refined into ready-to-use synthetic fuels. While the production numbers might seem small for now, the real story here isn’t just quantity — it’s proof that this kind of fuel can work outside of a lab, at a commercial scale.

ERA ONE is showing the world that green hydrogen and synthetic fuels aren’t just future concepts — they’re here, they’re real, and they’ve got the potential to reshape what sustainable industry looks like. This plant isn’t just fueling planes and ships; it’s fueling a whole new era in clean energy.
