Metis Engineering Launches Next-Gen Environmental Sensors for Safer Hydrogen Infrastructure

Metis Engineering has just rolled out a trio of new smart sensors—Cell Guard, H Guard, and Air Wise—designed to make energy systems safer and more efficient. Launched on March 6, 2025, these clever CAN-based devices are built to catch problems early, giving operators a chance to act before things go sideways.

Smarter hydrogen infrastructure with H Guard

According to the company H Guard keeps a close eye on hydrogen levels, picking up even the tiniest trace of gas before it becomes dangerous. In setups involving fuel cell technology, this is a game-changer—helping teams prevent explosive gas build-up and keeping systems running safely. It’s a big step forward for anyone working in hydrogen infrastructure.

Keeping lithium-ion batteries in check with Cell Guard

Cell Guard monitors lithium-ion batteries in real-time, tracking things like temperature, humidity, and pressure. If venting or other warning signs start to show, it flags the issue immediately. It doesn’t just help catch faults—it also supports compliance efforts through tools like digital Battery Passports. It’s a solid solution for boosting lithium-ion battery safety and reducing downtime through predictive maintenance.

Cleaner indoor air with Air Wise

Meanwhile, Air Wise focuses on the air we breathe. It watches over environmental conditions indoors, detecting emissions like CO₂ and NOx. The goal? Cleaner air and smarter energy use—especially in HVAC systems and other parts of the built environment. It fits right in with companies pushing for healthier, more efficient spaces.

With more than 200 installations already out in the world, these new tools from Metis Engineering show just how quickly demand is growing for smart, embedded environmental monitoring sensors in the clean energy space.
