Solør Bioenergi Group acquires Vesterålskraft Varme

Vesterålskraft Varme owns and operates district heating plants in Sortland and Myre in Vesterålen, together supplying public and private customers in Sortland and Myre with around 14 GWh of district heating annually.

Solør Bioenergi Varme has agreed to acquire the assets and develop the business further in close collaboration with customers and local authorities.

As a representative of Vesterålskraft Varme, Chairman of the Board Halvard Pettersen expressed satisfaction that it is industrial and long-term owners who are now taking over the baton and taking the development forward.

The establishment and development of district heating in Sortland and Myre has become a very demanding activity for the current owners, in addition to their daily work. There is a limit to everything, and with the scope of the business, it is right that a professional district heating operator now takes over responsibility for further development. We are convinced that Solør Bioenergi will contribute further to the development of Sortland and Myre city center by continuing to facilitate sustainable energy solutions. The daily operation of district heating will continue with the same high level of delivery security as before, and we are very satisfied with that, said Halvard Pettersen.

Since its inception in 2003, Solør Bioenergi Grupp has developed into a leading player in renewable energy in Norway and Sweden. Currently, the Group has over 3.6 TWh per annum in total energy deliveries.

The head office for the Norwegian part of the business is located in Kirkenær.

With the acquisition of the district heating plants in Vesterålen, Solør Bioenergi strengthens its commitment in the Northern region. We look forward to supporting existing and new customers in Vesterålen by offering further development of sustainable heating solutions in the area. The focus on district heating has been – and is – very important for achieving overall climate goals. In addition, district heating helps to relieve the load on the power grid, which in turn reduces society’s need for investments, and frees up a lot of electrical capacity for more suitable purposes than heating, such as electric vehicle charging, said Hans M. Moss, Chairman of the Board of Solør Bioenergi Varme.
