ChargeLab pays Canadian EV drivers for charging at home

We all know that charging an EV at home is cheap, but some Canadian EV drivers actually get cash back for plugging in.

Toronto-based EV charger management software company ChargeLab has increased payouts through its ChargeLab Rewards program to 10 cents per kWh for all enrolled single-family homeowners in Canada. ChargeLab also offers versions of the program for multifamily properties and businesses.

The company says its average customer currently receives credit for over 3,500 kWh per year, so a typical participant could receive more than CA$350 annually.

The program is funded in part through Canada’s Clean Fuel Regulations (CFR). ChargeLab earns carbon credits through the federal program, and reinvests the revenue to expand EV charging infrastructure across Canada. The company’s ChargeLab Rewards program uses the CFR framework but isn’t operated by or officially partnered with the Canadian government.

Drivers don’t necessarily have to buy a new charger to join the program. ChargeLab Rewards works with existing OCPP-compatible home chargers from brands such as Autel, Leviton, Siemens and Wallbox.

The ChargeLab app also lets drivers access several Canadian public charging networks without roaming fees, including SureCharge, Filgo, Nova Scotia Power and the Ivy Charging Network.
