City of Hastings Nebraska approves 25-year RNG deal with NewCarbon
In the United States (US), clean energy infrastructure company NewCarbon LLC has announced that it has finalized a 25-year agreement with the City of Hastings, Nebraska, to convert methane emissions from the Hastings Sanitary Landfill into renewable natural gas (RNG).

NewCarbon is investing roughly US$20 million to develop the landfill gas (LFG) to RNG project, allowing the City of Hastings to avoid the capital cost of installing a gas collection system and to meet future methane capture requirements at no expense to taxpayers.
In addition, the project is expected to generate up to US$2 million in royalty revenue for the City of Hastings over 25 years.
We are delighted to be partnering with the City of Hastings on this project. Together, we’re not only reducing methane emissions but transforming a wasted resource into clean, renewable energy that benefits the entire community. Our turnkey approach makes it easy for communities like Hastings to lower their carbon footprint and focus on what they do best while we handle the rest, said Omar Khayum, CEO of NewCarbon.
Project construction is slated to begin in late 2027, with commercial operations starting by mid-2029.
The City of Hastings is proud to partner with NewCarbon on this long-term agreement. This project is a win-win for our community – it allows us to meet environmental goals and turn waste into renewable energy, all while avoiding any new costs to taxpayers and generating additional revenue for the city. Fiscal responsibility is a top priority for me, and this partnership is a great example of how we can make smart investments that benefit Hastings today and for generations to come, said Mayor Jay Beckby.
