Launched in time for the first day of the Global Offshore Wind conference in London, The Crown Estate has outlined its proposal to invest up to £400 million into the UK offshore wind supply chain.
Its new publication, Powering Offshore Wind, details The Crown Estate’s proposal to focus investments on new onshore enabling infrastructure, including ports, supply chain manufacturing, and research and testing facilities. These investments are designed to tackle one of the sectors biggest challenges: insufficient supply chain capacity, which has been identified as a major bottleneck in accelerating offshore wind deployment.
Drawing on the enhanced investment powers granted through the Crown Estate Act 2025, the Crown Estate’s investment will be deployed through two key programmes:
- £350 million Supply Chain Investment Programme (SCIP): Focused on large-scale port and supply chain infrastructure to support the accelerated build-out of offshore wind projects.
- £50 million Supply Chain Accelerator (SCA): Now in its second round of funding, this programme supports early-stage project development, including port-related infrastructure. The current round closes to applications on 27 June 2025.
Both initiatives aim to deliver financial, environmental, and social value, underpinned by stringent investment criteria and alignment with The Crown Estate’s Sustainable Development Principles.
For regions where offshore wind and floating wind developments are gathering pace, such as Wales, this investment could unlock significant opportunities.
