Xos to deliver mobile EV charging system to the US Air Force

Xos, a manufacturer electric commercial vehicles and mobile charging solutions, has won a contract from the US Air Force to develop a mobile charging solution for electrified support equipment and vehicles.

The award marks Xos’s entry into the defense market, and the company sees substantial opportunities in the military power solutions sector. The Department of Defense is the largest institutional consumer of energy in the US, and the US Army has announced plans to deploy microgrids at all its installations, and to electrify its non-tactical vehicle fleet by 2035.

Xos will adapt its Xos Hub grid-independent mobile battery energy storage system to operate in demanding field environments to deliver reliable, high-capacity, standards-based charging for electrified support equipment and vehicles.

Designed in California and manufactured in Tennessee, the system will undergo primary assembly and integration at Xos’s Byrdstown, Tennessee facility.
