Nikkiso Launches an Innovative Pump to Revolutionize Hydrogen Fueling Stations

Nikkiso, a Japan-based company with over six decades in industrial innovation, recently unveiled a groundbreaking product for hydrogen fueling infrastructure. The new P2KHF pump is pitched as a practical response to a persistent problem: loss of liquid hydrogen during transfer at fueling stations. Nikkiso says the device is intended to keep less hydrogen sent to waste, a claim that, if borne out in wider use, would alter operating margins for station owners and could change how operators think about on-site storage and transfer.
During tests at an unspecified site in California, Nikkiso claims that the P2KHF managed to achieve liquid-hydrogen transfer losses of less than 1%. That single result sits at the center of the company’s announcement. The pump serves dual roles—it can function as a boost pump or stand alone for subcooled liquid hydrogen refueling. Retrofit compatibility with select existing Nikkiso stations is also part of the pitch, a detail that could ease deployment by reducing the need for wholesale station rebuilds.
